Additional Registration Options

Kansas City-area docents, guides, staff, and traveling companions may register for individual symposium events.  Two alternatives are offered – one for local docents and guides only that includes the breakout sessions and another for travel companions that does not.

Breakout Sessions: Breakout sessions are one-hour talks offered by docents from across the country. They cover a variety of topics, such as difficult subjects, young children, training docents and recruiting docents. A package of four breakout sessions is $100 – two on September 17 with lunch in between and two the morning of September 18.

Pre-tours: Pre-tours offer the opportunity to see something special in Kansas City that an unaccompanied guest would not ordinarily see. They are available for various costs ($50, $65, $100) depending on the length of time for the pre-tour. One tour takes place the evening of September 15; half-day and full-day tours are on Friday, September 16.

Sunday Afternoon Out (SAO): SAO tours provide the opportunity to learn from docents in their own environment. They are offered Sunday afternoon, September 18. Cost is $50.

  • Nelson-Atkins Museum– Friday September 16 – $150
  • Union Station – Saturday September 17 – $100
  • World War I Museum– Sunday September 18 – $75

Breakfast and Speaker Glenn North: Glenn North’s presentation,“Parting Inspiration from an Accidental Docent,” takes place at the InterContinental Hotel, September 19. Cost is $50.

Note:  Please be sure that you check in at the symposium registration tables on the ballroom level of the Intercontinental Hotel to pick up your nametag and a list of the events in which you are participating. If you are attending a pre-tour, Sunday Afternoon Out workshop, or a dinner, you must ride the bus from the hotel to the event site and back. This helps our programming partners be assured that everyone has arrived.
