Engaging Museum Visitors in Difficult Topics at the Truman Library

ENGAGING MUSEUM VISITORS IN DIFFICULT TOPICS AT THE TRUMAN LIBRARY (This workshop is FULL)

At the newly renovated Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum, visitors experience the eventful and triumphant life of America’s 33rd president. The cinematic experience covers some of the most dramatic chapters of world history from the ending of World War II to the beginning of the Cold War. Each day, Library docents guide visitors and school groups through the perilous situations that Truman faced. Library docents will discuss how they present these topics and tailor their tours for different age demographics during a tour of the $29-million museum transformation.

Bus transportation is provided to and from the hotel.

Host Institution: Harry S. Truman Library & Museum

As time allows, attendees will view the White House Decision Center and learn more about the nationally recognized hands-on history lab. Since opening in 2002, more than 125,000 students have stepped into the roles of President Truman and his advisors to work with formerly classified primary source documents and collaborate to tackle some of history’s greatest challenges: ending the war with Japan, addressing postwar civil rights in the U.S. Armed Forces, reacting to the Soviet blockade of Berlin, responding to the Communist invasion of South Korea, and addressing the end of the British Mandate in Palestine.
